Watershed conditions statement - flood outlook
The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that warmer weather accompanied by rainfall is expected to begin moving through the watershed today, continuing into tomorrow. This weather system is expected to bring temperatures well above seasonal values with daytime highs climbing above +6oC. The forecast is currently calling for 15-30mm of rain on Sunday, Dec. 29.

Town closures for the holidays
The Civic Centre will be closed from Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024 to Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025 inclusive, with regular service resuming Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025.

Water bills being mailed out
With Canada Post services resuming services, water bills to residents will now be mailed out and Town staff will no longer be at the Ice Palace to hand them out.
Residents can also contact Service Georgina in person or through email at info@georgina.ca to receive a copy of their bill.
Residents can also register to access tax and water bills online via the Town’s online portal.

Town implements holiday parking exemption
Tis the season for celebrating with family and friends and the Town is implementing a temporary holiday on-street parking exemption so residents and visitors don’t have to move their car, except when winter operations are underway. The holiday parking exemption will be in effect from noon Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, to Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. Municipal Enforcement will not ticket vehicles parked for more than three consecutive hours or between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m.

York Regional Police Response Increases Presence in the Town of Georgina
While Georgina remains one of the safest communities in Canada, the town has experienced an increase in violent crime in 2024, including a number of shootings during the last four months. York Regional Police is reassuring residents that we are continuing to respond to their concerns through a multipronged approach to ensure the community’s safety and wellbeing.
Georgina has experienced three shootings in 2024. YRP wants to ensure residents that all of these incidents are targeted. All three shootings are under active investigation.

There is a Special Council meeting tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 11, 2024, at 7 p.m.
The meetings are a flexible hybrid model, providing staff, Council members and the public the option of participating either in person or virtually.

Georgina Council approves 2025 budget
Georgina Council has approved the 2025 budget, which includes a 2.99 per cent increase for operating expenditures and a 2 per cent increase for an infrastructure levy for a total tax levy increase of 4.99 per cent. The annual infrastructure levy for capital reserves is necessary to ensure the Town can continue to invest in the capital infrastructure that residents rely upon. The increase translates into an estimated property tax increase of $135 for an average home with an assessed value of $452,000.

It’s snow joke! Winter is coming and Georgina is ready
Winter weather will be here soon and the Town of Georgina is ready to handle the snow and ice on the roads and sidewalks. Did you know the Town is responsible for 333 kilometres of roads, 140 kilometres of sidewalks and multi-use paths, and 25 municipal parking lots? A combination of Town-owned trucks and contracted services provide snowplowing services to Town roads and sidewalks through a priority and secondary route system.

Georgina takes home three more MarCom awards
The Town’s trophy shelf is expanding again after capturing three MarCom awards. The Communications Division won a gold MarCom award for the Multi-Use Recreation Complex (MURC) sneak peek video. The Economic Development and Tourism Division received two gold MarCom awards for the Taste of Georgina campaign and the National Post advertorial on the Keswick Business Park.
